Toxic environment and self-serving leadership

Pros

Some highly talented SDRs and Account Executives who do great work and know the product / use cases well. Gong can be a powerful tool for sales teams when used to it's max potential and although it's expensive, tends to be worth the investment for the right teams.

Cons

Bullying and abusive remarks are served daily in the (mandatory) office both publicly and behind your back (although you will find out what is said and everyone knows who and where it comes from). Loyalty is demanded but never reciprocated, you are, and always will be, a pawn. Fear is palpable throughout EMEA and while incapable "leaders" excel at managing up, they could not be more afraid of questioning senior management in case of being shamed and/or ridiculed themselves which is a weekly occurrence. If micromanagement was a sport, Gong would win the constructors' championship. It is not uncommon for several people to be out of work on stress leave each month, which is concerning for a team of ~80 but also makes sense when you witness how people are manipulated daily. Gong is sadly another victim of the growth at all costs era of VC funding, too many sales reps hired in a short space of time leaving little to no opportunity for new hires to get anywhere near their quotas having been sold the dream by recruitment time and time again. Those who were not set up for success from the outset are then blamed for these unavoidable outcomes or "coached" in spreadsheets until they've had enough. Reps have joined from reputable companies as top performers and struggled to close any deals as they should have never been hired at all. Tried to regionalise and realised product was not capable of doing well in other markets, but that's the sales reps fault. Avoid at all costs, speak to Gong employees, ask about median attainment, quotas, commission structure, how much that has changed, what leadership are like etc.

I appreciate you taking the time to provide thoughtful feedback. While it was nice to read that you think highly of our SDRs and AEs and our product, it was very difficult to hear about your negative experiences. Bullying and verbal abuse in our work environment are not tolerated in any shape or form. In fact, the tenets of our culture – inclusivity, diversity, and belonging – are in direct contrast to this type of behavior. I’m truly sorry that hasn’t been your experience. I value all feedback (and privacy), so please reach out to me directly if you feel comfortable. Sandi, CPO

Pros

Excellent product, best in class, by far. With the widespread adoption of AI though, revenue intelligence might become comoditized soon Great benefits - lunch, recharge days, company events Fast-track opportunities for BDRs aiming to move into AE roles. Some genuinely talented colleagues.

Cons

Pay is below industry standards. I personally took a significant pay cut (-€40k/year) to join. Mandatory 3 days/week in-office, with additional days required at EOM/EOQ. Key decisions are made in the US, often leaving EMEA without proper alignment or support. For example, US books of business generate 40% more revenue, yet targets and book sizes are the same. High-pressure environment with gaslighting normalized, especially in sales. Reps are blamed for systemic issues, despite many being top performers in previous roles. Constant organizational changes—roles, segmentation, and targets shift yearly, creating instability and frustration. Favoritism and corporate politics are prevalent.

Pros

(Product) everyone should have Gong (People) 90% of the people are great (Politics) If you are wise enough to play the game, you can go far with Gong.

Cons

(Product) Gong isn't the only option out there anymore. While the best option, people aren't going to spend 4x for a few extra bells and whistles. You can't keep blaming the macro economic environment for lost deals to competitors anymore. (People) the other 10% watch out, it's cut throat. The OGs are willing to put up with the game because they have shares to vest but I promise, once vested, bye bye. New leaders don't know what they are doing, and they arent afraid to throw people under the bus to save themselves. Watch out for HR especially, I've been at gong long enough to see how they cover their mess up and blame others. (Politics) Start up to 7B valuation comes with a ton of politics. People are getting tired of it and are losing trust in leadership, hence the turnover of senior employees and newer employees.
