We are thrilled to announce our new charity partnership with Family Carers Ireland, the national charity supporting around half a million family carers across the country. 👏 With a pledge to raise €1 million over the next three years, funds raised by Lidl colleagues and customers will support the vital work of Family Carers Ireland who provide free supports and services such as emergency care planning, counselling, respite support and more. According to Family Carers Ireland, there are over 500,000 family carers across the country, but many others who are in a carer role are slipping through the net. Research amongst Lidl Ireland employees found that two in five employees are currently in a caring role and three quarters of employees believe they will be in a caring role in the next 5 to 15 years. Through the new partnership, we aim to encourage family carers to self-identify and connect with the charity with the message ‘we see you' to ensure that no one has to care alone.

As we celebrate #WorldMenopauseDay earlier this month, we're delighted to announce that Lidl has become the first company in Ireland to receive Gold Level Menopause Workplace Excellence Accreditation from The Menopause Hub Academy recognising our commitment to menopause awareness in our organisation. Over the past three years, we have worked closely with The Menopause Hub Academy to create distinct ways of sharing, educating, supporting their employees about menopause so that women can continue to work, live and enjoy their lives to the full. We recognise our responsibility as an employer to those going through the menopause to freely discuss their symptoms and request accommodations without fear of judgment, so we’ve invested heavily in training and support programmes and initiatives to better support managers and all employees. This included introducing a menopause buddy programme to encourage regular, open communication amongst colleagues; revised policies and support guides; free consultations with Menopause Hub specialists; regular educational sessions for all employees and in focus themed content distributed to employees through Lidl’s various internal channels. Our aim is to ensure that everyone feels comfortable and supported and we tailor our approach to meet individual needs.

Crowds gathered early to be amongst the first shoppers through the door of our newly refurbished store on Headford Road in Galway this morning. Galway Ladies Gaelic Footballer Nicola Ward and Cllr Niall McNelis were the guests of honour to cut the ribbon officially opening the highly anticipated new and improved store. The Headford Road store was one of our first stores to open in Ireland in 2000 and with this new refurbishment, we're delighted to offer customers an enhanced shopping experience throughout its expanded sales floor with high ceilings, wider aisle as well as five new self-service checkouts and a new tap and go coffee machine. To mark the opening, the Headford Road store team welcomed Arthur Carr and Deborah Carr from local charity Claddagh Watch to accept a donation of €1,000 in Lidl vouchers. The volunteer-led charity, founded in 2019, is dedicated to creating a safer environment around Galway city’s waterways through volunteer patrols and raising awareness. The opening of the newly refurbished Headford Road store created an additional 15 new jobs, bringing the store team to more than 30 colleagues.
We're proud to share that we have donated more than 5 million meals to over 700 charities across the island of Ireland in partnership with FoodCloud. Since 2017, we‘ve worked closely with FoodCloud to reduce waste and redistribute food through our store network and distribution centres to local charities. This milestone of 5 million meals has resulted in more than 2.1 million kgs of food being prevented from going to waste and more than 7 million kgs of carbon emissions from being emitted. #FoodWaste #ABetterTomorrow
