Pros

Wages guaranteed every week. Modern fleet of vehicles and strong unions. Good perks like free travel and subsidised GP. Good pension and ongoing annual training for drivers

Cons

The most institutionalised, broken, insolvent and fragmented company in the entire country. Absolutely inept and incompetent management at the very top. Blind eye, fingers in ears, see no evil hear no evil attitude and a workplace culture to match. If you wantnto work here then you have to learn how to play the game and become part of the collective. The place will make you institutionalised. This is not the place for critical thinkers. No consistency whatsoever amongst different departments or across staff grades. Each depot does things very differently to others. The inmates literally run the asylum depending on where they're based. The company certainly isn't run for the benefit of customers. Cronyism is rampant in the place. Jobs for the boys no matter how qualified or experienced other candidates are. Someone in a supervisor/manager role always has a husband/wife/son/daughter/brother/sister somewhere in the place. Proactive responsibility/ blame shifting and a total lack of personal responsibility for one's own work is the order of the day. Anyone who dares speak up and raise their concerns is treated as a troublemaker and someone to be ridiculed. Glad I am out of the place

Pros

Travel concessions on rail and UK travel Subsidised GP cover

Cons

Exceptionally poor work life balance Long work days with long unpaid breaks (up to 2hrs 45 unpaid) Middle and junior management have no leadership or management skills - Rely a lot on shouting and roaring to get point across Busses are mechanically not well maintained No communication or information given re roadworks delays etc - You will find these out when you go on the road. Complete lack of customer focus from lower to middle management Overtime and Sundays paid at normal hourly rate Very slow at implementing policy that benefits drivers - but very quick to implement cost saving measures that have further negative affect on work life balance. Annual leave dates are set by the company No possibility of career advancement Sneior management and Governemtn are driving the company into the ground

Pros

One good thing about the job is you're clean going to work and clean going home.

Cons

Work, life, balance is poor especially for a person with a young family. You'll be working 50 % of your weekends and alot of 10 hour shifts varying from morning, middle and night shifts with very little consistency resulting in exhaustion. In some cases you could be working a week of late shifts finishing after mid night then into a single rest day and straight into early shifts starting before 6 am. Your body clock is all over the place to the point you'll feel sick with exhaustion. You'll start on a 7 year pay scale but more than likely will leave after a couple of years as the shifts are mentally to challenging and eventually take its toll. Also dealing with the public can be very challenging as the clientel they carry can be very unpleasant people compared to previous jobs I've worked in. Management are fully aware of how morale is very low and drivers are leaving faster than they are coming in but don't seem to care. The response you'll get from them is everything is within the guidelines. Emphaty is non existent in the job.
