Pros

- Stability. - No pressure on numbers. - Easy sales for ISRs: sales are mainly transactional and order fulfilling. Field reps based in the local country offices look after the most complex deals. - Matlab is a programming language. Engineers learn how to use it at university, so they mainly know what they want when they place an order. - Honestly compensation is high enough, considering the low sales skills required in this role. The main skills needed in this role are: admin, organizational and sales support.

Cons

- The sales experience you gain here is not relevant to most IT companies . - Politics. Even if negative workplace politics is discouraged in the core values, you will find it. Management stick in the company till retirement, due to the low pressure, and have built their comfort zone around them. - Change is slow and discouraged . The main focus is to follow existing processes and changing them with new ones can be cumbersome. - Limited career opportunities.

Pros

Mathworks is a jewel within all these fast-growing, hyped-up companies. If you are looking for a job where you are dealing with professional and intelligent people, which take their work seriously and are passionate about the products, you have come to the right place . The team is a mixture of all ages and nationalities and the atmosphere is one of mutual respect and helpfulness. People sell well, because they believe in the product, and there is a complete lack of the ultra-competitive ,aggressive sales mentality and rivalry that poison so many sales environments. Territories are clear and well organised, and there is advise and coaching but no micro-management. You never stop learning at MathWorks, and if you like Science and Computing, you are in heaven. The Managers are fair and they are "proper" managers, that care about their team and have the experience. MathWorks is a no-nonsense , friendly company with dedicated , hard-working employees. The salary and benefits are good and get better, the longer you are with MathWorks. Unlike a lot of the very "young, fast and short-lived" sales jobs, MathWorks provides a stable, mature and steadily growing team and a nice ,modern office right in the Centre of Galway. It is so far the best company I have worked for.

Cons

The only one I can think of is the working from home policy , however, given type of product MathWorks sell , it is understandable.
