Pros

Caring for the elderly is an incredibly rewarding job, offering insights into their world and making you a more compassionate individual.

Cons

When I started working there, there was no contribution forwards petrol despite upwards of 100km per week being travelled on a part time basis. When petrol was brought in, it was 50c per call excluding first and last call, meaning it didn’t meet any realistic petrol expenses. Not to mention general depreciation and wear and tear of car ( plus insurance, tax, nct). The schedule was updated on a day to day basis which is ridiculous! Everyone understood that the nature of the job meant that timings may change but being sent to different homes every day made it impossible to build any relationship with the clients. Majority understaffed meaning that management were constantly asking for extra hours. Schedule often didn’t make sense ( I.e. half an hour call at 8am, next call not till 11am…) Meant that you might be in work for 14 hours but only paid for 8. Time between calls (I.e. the time it takes to get from client a to client b) was not paid. Also towards the end of my tenure there were clients who did not need care, they needed a cleaner which is not the service the company provided but management didn’t mind staff doing theses jobs. I actually had a client tell me that due to Covid , her cleaner quit which is why she got staff from iniscare to come in, plus “it’s free”… not a wise use of taxpayers money in my opinion.

Pros

Flexibility, location, availability, fortnight payment.

Cons

Supervisor without experience, the person who does the schedule do not know anything about travel time, the company always put the clients first that is why many of my colleagues left the job, lack of communication they do not answer the phone in the office, they are always asking us to cover shifts but when is the opposite is impossible to find someone to cover you. Night shift they pay less than €11 p/h when questioned why the supervisor informed that careers can sleep all night however the client calls 3 times for assistance. They also messed up with the rate so always check your payment.

Pros

Used to be a nice place to work for, not anymore.

Cons

Unprofessional, no privacy, personal issues are easily shared with other carers, sometimes when you call they can put you on speaker for the whole office to hear you. Worst schedules, they change as they please, clients complain about lack of communication, and not being listened to. Sometimes clients don’t have any carers assigned. I had a workmate who used to work 7 days in a row 8-9pm and didn’t have a choice of changing because she was tied to a visa, which is not fair, a great hard worker but she was always knackered. Wish the company can do something about that.
