Pros

- Staff in stores generally work well together and support each other while showing a sense of family to one another - Opportunities for training and development are easily attained - Staff discount is available across H&M and it's sister companies

Cons

- The area team are at the heart of all issues within the company. The area team largely consists of those who have received undeserved promotions and are a constant symbol of the rife favoritism within the company. The area team offer no support to stores other than constant criticism which is delivered in ways intended to belittle and intimidate staff. Area team have no clue of the reality of running a store and regularly provide expectations which are completely unachievable which only serve to stress out and demotivate staff. Ultimately, the area team show no appreciation for their staff and this has resulted in a rapidly increasing rate of staff turnover. - Salaries for any sort of management roles are laughable, particularly in comparison to that of the company's competitors. Salaries in contrast to workload are unbelievable and not worth the stress and grueling workload. Management in smaller stores receive awful pay yet have the most stress which is unfair. There is also no overtime pay, yet overtime is expected of staff anyway. - Staff may be expected to transfer to different stores which may not be easily accessible to them at request of the area team. Those who decline or are not seen as "flexible" are immediately in the bad books with the area team and are seen as less favorable members of staff. Work life balance is never taken into account. - Company expenditure has become extremely tight. Staff hours are regularly having to be cut in order to save money while creating a grueling workload for the rest of the staff. Staff required to travel to work early in the morning when public transport links are not running are now expected to fork out taxi fares from their own pocket. Rewards, bonuses and incentives have become increasingly rare and unattainable which further demotivates staff. Zero Christmas bonus or any sort of recognition or appreciation shown to the staff in stores for their enormous workload during the busy Christmas period.

Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts with us. We appreciate you mentioning the great teams we have in store and the progression opportunities that H&M offers. However, we are sorry to hear about the pressure you or your colleagues have been experiencing in store. We encourage an open-door policy where every employee should feel they can approach management to gain support in whatever challenges they are faced with. We know that our fast-paced environment can sometimes be intense and the hours in store can sometimes feel limited to achieve our common goals… But we are taking your feedback on board.

H&M = Hell & Misery

Pros

You will honestly make friends for life in this place, as you will all suffer so much together you will become very close. 25% staff discount is handy. Zero discrimination against race or sexual orientation. You will get very well trained (eventually).

Cons

I will say things were not always this bad in H&M. It really used to be a fantastic place to work where people enjoyed coming to work and did not feel like they were just numbers. A lot of the bad points have already been covered by previous reviews and are 100% true. It is like a one stop shop of things not to do, i.e. make people take holidays when they do not want to, spread your personal business around the country, completely disregard the law when it comes to your 11.5 rest break between shifts, favouritism...I could literally on forever. H&M is a circus and the clowns are all the hard working teams all over Ireland who break there backs to try and do the impossible with no staff and ridiculous expectations set upon them. One common thing between all the reviews is the area team. Everything from them being rude , very little help and using scare tactics is true. This is the heart of the problem and the truly scary thing about all of this is that, when all of this comes to light they will simply say "we had no idea". These are the people who are entrusted with running this organisation within the north and south of Ireland and are clueless as to whats going on. Even when staff leaver rates have to be off the charts, as the majority of the experienced team members have all jumped ship leaving very very few long standing staff behind. They will still continue to do nothing. My Advice to anyone reading this who is thinking about a job here is DO NOT!!! Honestly its not worth it what so ever. It will crush you inside slowly and make you start to question the person you really are. My advice to any staff who might be reading this- GET OUT!! Yes its a scary prospect looking for another job but once you are free you will kill yourself for not doing it sooner. As of the day I a writing this review there are 2 reviews below me that stand out as positive in a ocean of negativity. It would not surprise me if this was someone from the area team trying to do damage control.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts on your experience at H&M. As you know feedback is really important to us. We are sorry that after more than 10 years in the company - and with happy ones amongst these - you have decided to leave us. It is a shame that you feel you had a poor experience at the end of your employment with us and that you and your manager(s) weren't able to resolve this together internally; we encourage an open-door policy where every employee should feel they can approach management to gain support in whatever challenges they are faced with. Our values and global leadership expectations are our guides when managing or being managed. Thanks again for your review and we wish you well for your future career.

Pros

The friends you make - we're all bonded in misery Staff discount is standard

Cons

I'd give 0 stars if I could Unsafe work environment (this is illegal and completely unacceptable) Unfair rosters - store manager works 8-5 most days with weekends off. Completely unfair to other management and also we need two managers closing at the weekends. The store is in such a bad way, we need the extra help Level of workload expected without proper staffing - staff constantly call in sick because they can't face working. Recently 3 were off sick due to stress leave. There's no leadership from the store manager. We're all left fending for ourselves and half the staff are new or are not trained properly Store management lacking in leadership - allowing inexperienced staff to run a store is just unintelligent. The store is the worst I've ever seen. Unless we have a strong and motivational leader at the helm we will never get out of the pit we're in The store is filthy- on a daily basis customers complain about the dirt and dust everywhere (fitting rooms, tills, floors, shelves and even on clothes) and staff have to listen to angry customers when the standard of cleaning is out of our control. We've mentioned this several times to management and nothing is done. Half the staff are getting sick due to the dirt in the store. There's a big hole in th floor of the stockroom which all of us constantly fall over. This is seriously going to hurt someone some day. Irish area team covering each others backs while the staff in store are struggling - excuses always given and no real action taken. This review isn't just to complain or give out this is a genuine concern for the welfare of the staff in this store. Get the store in a safe condition before someone really hurts themselves.
