Pros

Relatively well paid and they give young people a chance.

Cons

The corporate culture is absolutely horrible, they try to mould you into a terrible human being and its all directed from the top. The levels of bureaucracy is terrifying, constant battles over using the printer/paper (because its so bureaucratic you need to print and have copies of everything - duh, we needed to use the printer!) Constant office politics and backbiting, and the senior managers are almost all (with some honourable exceptions) hollow husks of people, utterly beaten down by a lifetime of drudgery and nastiness. Every little mistake you make is analysed and brought back to you months or even years later. Its only since I left the company (I once worked at store level also) that I realised that working for Dunnes is kind of like belonging to a self flagellating cult - this is not a normal atmosphere.

Pros

I've met some great people working here. Benefits such as pension, healthcare

Cons

There are managers in this company with over 20 years service and they treat both staff and newer managers with disdain. You will work ridiculous hours, multiple closing shifts and depending on whether the store is standalone or part of a shopping centre will dictate your hours. Standalones normally open until 10pm despite the fact that there is no one in the store after 8.30. Forget about having 11 hours between your shifts close at 10 back in at 7 or 8. They will run you into the ground and burn you out. Stores are being run on skeleton crews with both management and staff. Staffs hours being cut more and more and management are expected to pick up the slack and work extra hours. A lot of the time you wont get these extra hours back its just expected that you have no life outside of this company. The place is bred on negativity, stores could be beating budgets and you will receive a visit from a higher up from head office who will tear both the store and your department to shreds saying the place isnt up to the company standard. There is no positivity from head office at all. I've spent a good few years with this company and things just get worse. Take my advice and RUN
