Akara Robotics are currently hiring for a Data Annotation and Quality Specialist to join their team.
We are looking for a Data Annotation and Quality Specialist to support the development and quality assurance of Akara’s AI products.
Working closely with Akara’s AI and operations teams, as well as external clinical partners, you will review, interpret, and annotate operating room data from a variety of sources, including video footage, system-generated data streams, graphical plots, and clinical records. You will identify relevant clinical and operational events, assess the accuracy of system-generated outputs, and ensure that annotated data consistently meets clearly defined quality standards.
The role will initially focus on hands-on data annotation, validation, and quality assurance. As Akara’s annotation function grows, you will have the opportunity to take on broader responsibilities in process improvement, training, workflow coordination, and quality management, with the potential to progress into a team leadership position.
This role is well suited to someone who enjoys taking ownership, solving practical problems, and working in a fast-moving environment where their contribution will have a clear and visible impact.
- Review and annotate operating room data, including video, sensor outputs, graphical plots, and clinical records
- Identify relevant clinical and operational events using established annotation guidelines
- Review system-generated data and flag errors, inconsistencies, or uncertain cases
- Perform quality checks to ensure annotations are accurate, complete, and consistent
- Compare information across multiple data sources to resolve discrepancies
- Maintain clear and accurate records of completed annotation work
- Follow data handling, privacy, and information security procedures
- Escalate ambiguous or complex cases for further review
- Contribute feedback on annotation guidelines, tools, and quality assurance processes
- Support the development of more efficient and scalable annotation workflows
- As the team grows, assist with training, mentoring, and coordinating other annotators
During your first 12 months, you will:
- Consistently produce accurate and reliable annotations
- Meet agreed productivity and quality targets
- Develop a strong understanding of Akara’s annotation standards and operating room workflows
- Identify recurring data quality issues and contribute to their resolution
- Help improve annotation guidance, quality controls, and review processes
- Support the onboarding and training of new annotation team members
- Take increasing ownership of annotation projects and workflows
- Exceptional attention to detail and the ability to complete repetitive analytical tasks with a high degree of accuracy
- Ability to follow detailed instructions, guidelines, and quality standards consistently
- Ability to interpret visual information and identify patterns or discrepancies across multiple data sources
- Strong computer literacy and proficiency with standard software applications
- Good organisational and time-management skills
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a team
- Eligibility to work in Ireland without requiring visa sponsorship
- Previous experience in data annotation, data labelling, quality assurance, data review, auditing, or a similar analytical role
- A bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification in a STEM discipline, health sciences, biomedical engineering, data science, computer science, or a related field
- Previous experience annotating video, image, sensor, or healthcare-related datasets
- An understanding of clinical terminology, operating room processes, or healthcare workflows
- Experience using annotation, labelling, or data-quality management tools
- Experience working with confidential, sensitive, or regulated data
- Previous experience training, mentoring, or coordinating the work of others
- Experience supervising or managing a small team
Akara is a spin-out from Trinity College that helps hospitals perform more procedures and reduce infections through faster and more efficient room decontamination, powered by cutting-edge robotic automation and AI. This is important because patients that get infections spend three times longer in hospitals, and infections acquired in hospitals lead to four times more deaths than road traffic accidents.
Akara is currently supported by Enterprise Ireland through their high potential startups program (HPSU). To date they have raised €3M in funding, including a €2.5M grant from the European Innovation Council, Europe’s most prestigious deep-tech funding program. They are currently raising a €2.5M seed funding round.
